Santa Fe College (Florida)
Santa Fe College (formerly Santa Fe Community College) has been serving the Gainesville, Florida and North-Central Florida area since 1966. It has facilities in Alachua, Bradford, and Clay Counties. In 2009 the college began offering 4-year degree programs for the first time and removed the word community from its name. There is currently a total enrollment of about 16,800 students at six locations. The main location is the Northwest Campus (184 acres) in Gainesville with about 13,900 students. It is located on N.W. 83rd Street between N.W. 23rd Avenue and N.W. 39th Avenue near I-75 Exit 390. Santa Fe College has two more locations in Gainesville. The Blount Downtown Center at W. University Avenue and N.W. 6th Street (2 acres) has about 1,200 students. The Kirkpatrick Institute of Public Safety (60 acres) on N.E. 39th Avenue has about 1,100 students. The Andrews Center in downtown Starke, Florida in Bradford County (1 acre) has about 325 students. The Watson Center on S.R. 21 in Keystone Heights in Bradford County (12 acres) has about 320 students. The Davis Center on S.R. 24 in Archer, Florida (9 acres) has about 300 students.
Santa Fe College has been ranked 5th nationally among community colleges in AA degrees awarded. Nearly 70% of its AA degree graduates go on to attend the University of Florida (UF) which is also located in Gainesville. There are students enrolled from almost all counties in Florida, from many U.S. states, and from about 80 different countries. Educational programs include the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo with 75 different native and exotic species of animals. It is the only nationally AZA-accredited zoo on a community college campus and attracts over 30,000 visitors per year. Other educational programs include the Charles R. Perry Construction Institute, the Health Science and Nursing Program, and the Center for Innovation and Economic Development. Additional attractions are the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium, the Jean Klein Rock Cycle Garden, and the North Woods Natural Teaching Area.
Every year Santa Fe College hosts numerous community education classes, College for Kids, the Spring Arts Festival in Gainesville, and the Starke Fall (Arts) Festival.
